Gargunnock Beekeepers

Beekeepers

Gargunnock Beekeepers is a small group from the village with an interest in beekeeping and promoting a bee-friendly community.

We care for honey bees at our apiary in Glebe Park.

The local area offers plenty of forage and the bees provide us with plenty of honey in return, which we sell in the Gargunnock Community Shop and at local events. Although we are not able to offer beekeeper training ourselves, please speak to us if you have an interest in getting involved, or if your group/club would like to learn more about honey bees and the life of a beekeeper.

Gargunnock Cricket Club

Cricket Club

Gargunnock & Kippen Cricket Team are looking for new players to join our merry throng!

If you’ve played before that’s great – but we’re also keen to attract novices or people who fancy just ‘giving it a go’, especially juniors / young people. We have plenty of kit to share and can offer coaching to help get people started. We are an inclusive club & everyone is welcome.

Our historic and picturesque ground is located at Meiklewood (just off the A811 Stirling Rd.) with a practice net, pavilion and natural wicket. We have training and midweek matches scheduled from April – September each year.

Matches start at 6pm on Wednesday evenings and are the 20/20 format – most players will get a shot at batting or bowling, and we usually finish by 8pm’ish (with refreshments afterwards). Lift shares etc. can usually be organised.

The club is looking to attract some new people from the local villages – what better way to enjoy a lovely summer evening than by playing a bit of cricket!

Hope to see you soon & please spread the word.

Gargunnock Farmers Show

Gargunnock Farmers Show

Gargunnock Farmers’ Club is one of the oldest in Scotland. Founded in 1794, its list of secretaries goes back to 1796.

The lean years of the early 1780s resulted in increased interest in improved agriculture. Landlords, anxious to keep rents up were keen to encourage ‘improvement’ and attract like-minded tenants.

One result of this was the setting up of farmers’ clubs and agricultural societies.

Paths Group

The Paths Group was set up under the auspices of the Community Trust with a remit to maintain and develop paths and trails around Gargunnock and improve linkages with adjoining villages and Stirling.

Members of the Group do not have to be Gargunnock Trustees and previous work has involved a large group of resident volunteers.  This includes the development of the Glebe Park path and improving the Beeches Walk and Charlies Loan, as well as commissioning work on the Hill Trail.

A major ongoing project is the creation of an Active Travel Route between Gargunnock and Stirling where the Trust is working with Stirling Council.

Gargunnock Walking Group

Walking Group

The Gargunnock Walking Group is a small informal walking group which meets twice a month throughout the year.

Walks are usually about 5-7 miles in length over variable terrain on tracks and paths. There may be some ascent required, but not usually arduous.

We may travel for up to an hour or so to seek out scenic and interesting walks.

Members are expected to be self-sufficient during walks and capable of dealing with the terrain. We do not expect members to bring dogs because we may be walking in the vicinity of cattle. Lunch is usually taken after a walk.
