Welcome to Gargunnock

Welcome to the Gargunnock village website, which we hope will provide interest and useful information for residents and visitors.  Gargunnock is a friendly, rural village located on the Carse of Stirling, to the west of the City of Stirling.   Around the village, most people will wave, say hello, or perhaps stop to chat, even if they have not met you.  The village is small and set in an area of outstanding beauty, with vistas to the Gargunnock Hills, Striling Castle, the Wallace Monument, the Trossachs and Ben Lomond.  The rural landscape and environment are a key feature of the village.  People who live or visit here become attuned to the seasons and the changes each one brings, in the surrounding fields or through observing the wildlife and their migration.

In the heart of the village are the church, primary school, community centre, community shop and the Gargunnock Inn.  Each one providing a welcome meeting place where different activities also take place.

The village enjoys a network of easily accessible and well-maintained routes and paths. These circle the village and provide access to the hills and the waterfall to the south or lead on to other villages.  The paths are used daily by walkers, cyclists and occasionally by those on horseback, each route featuring extensive panoramas.  Many areas within the village also enjoy lovely views, as can be seen in the images (old and new) throughout the website.

Over the course of the year many events take place; like the popular summer Gala, the historical Gargunnock Agricultural Show, the Beer Festival, the Flower Show, and more recently, the switching on of the Christmas lights, as well as the monthly Bite and Blether meet up in the Community Centre.  These events all help to bring the village to life and Gargunnock also has its own quarterly newsletter, The Bugle.  It is funded and published by the Community Trust and delivered to every household.  Copies of the Bugle are now also to be found here online.

The village benefits hugely from a valuable financial contribution granted by the local wind farm*.   This fund has contributed to many significant projects within the village, such as the refurbishment of the Community Centre and the Beeches path.  A full list of the projects that have been funded can be found on the Windfarm page on the website.                                               *Nadara Kingsburn Community Energy Ltd Community Fund (Gargunnock)

Our website aim is to highlight what Gargunnock has to offer.  Locally groups and individual people, are to be found enjoying themselves and doing things, seen or unseen, to make this a good place to live and visit.  The many organisations within the village always welcome new members and volunteers and links to them can be found on the Groups & Organisations pages.  Many businesses also operate from the village, and several are based within the community centre, which is also available as a venue to hire.

We are aware that there may be gaps in what is provided within the village, especially for young people, and each of our organisations is open to new ideas and developments.  The Young Person’s Bursary, administered by the Wind Farm Panel, is a welcome approach to support young people and to enhance their connection to the village.

As we have seen, Gargunnock is a vibrant community with lots going on.  The Community Benefit Society Company, owns the Community Shop and we have a wide variety of organisations, including the Community Trust, the Community Council and the Gala Committee.  There is a branch of the Scottish Women’s Institute (SWI), as well as clubs for football, curling and cricket and other interest groups including bee keeping, fitness, yoga, gardening, Glebe Park management and much else beside.  The village is increasingly a destination for tourists with accommodation through Airbnbs, Gargunnock House, Old Leckie Farm (which also offers organic produce), and the Tree Houses at Leckie.

The Community Trust administers the website and if anyone has suggested additions, changes or feedback, then please email webadmin@gargunnock.org

We hope that you enjoy using the website and find it useful and easy to navigate.
